Boots shops at Tesco for retail director
Scott Wheway joins health & beauty retailer
Boots has recruited one of Tesco’s ‘rising stars’, appointing Scott Wheway as its new retail director.
Wheway, 38, will take charge of the operation of Boots’ 1400 stores across the UK. He has worked for Tesco for 20 years, and is currently CEO of their operations in Japan.
He will join the Boots team in the New Year and take up the role from the start of the 2005/06 financial year in April. He will report to Boots chief executive Richard Baker, for whom the appointment marks a key development in his strategy to revitalise Boots’ retail offer.
Boots said current retail director Alex Gourlay is to take responsibility for developing some long-term growth initiatives for the retail side of the business.
Baker said: “I am delighted to have Scott Wheway on board. He has had excellent hands on experience at all levels within Tesco. Scott has lived and breathed the success that is delivered from being a customer led organisation and will add a great deal to our management team.
“Alex has successfully led the retail team through a year of tremendous change. His knowledge of our business will be invaluable for the future.”
Wheway said: “I am thrilled to be joining Boots at a time when so much is happening. There is plenty of hard work ahead and I look forward to applying my experience to these exciting challenges.”
