Boots is not commenting on a report that Asda chief operating officer Richard Baker is to be appointed chief executive of the high street health & beauty retailer.
The Times reported that Boots has been in advanced talks with Baker to replace Steve Russell, and hopes to confirm an appointment within two weeks.
Baker joined Asda in 1999 after five years at confectionery group Mars. A former Asda colleague told the Times: “He has a lot of experience managing a strong brand, in Mars, and he is very much inclined to roll up his sleeves and speak to the people on the ground.”
Boots said it made no comment on speculation about candidates for the job.
