Boots plans in-store concessions
Retailer looking to lease space in larger stores
Boots plans to lease space in its largest stores to other retailers in a move aimed at sharing the high cost of trading from prime locations.
The Financial Times reports that Boots is moving to the concession-style deals in its 150 largest stores.
Vodafone will sell phones through dedicated sales areas in some Boots stores, and a pilot has been set up with Travelex exchange bureaux in a handful of shops.
In the coming months, Boots aims to establish partnerships with clothing retailers and service businesses such as the Post Office.
Chief executive Richard Baker told the FT:”We can be really excellent in health and beauty and all of the things that are immediately attached to that.
“There are also other businesses where we can operate with partners and make a difference. If you take mobile phones, we have space to trade them and we can partner with somebody to give them access to a female customer base.”
