Boots issues apology for competition blunder

Health and beauty products retailer Boots has issued an apology after it mistakenly sent its customers an email saying that they had won a holiday as part of a competition.

The email said: “Congratulations valued customer, you won! You are the lucky winner of a trip for two to Barcelona.”

Customers who received the congratulatory email began sharing their good news almost immediately via social media channels but the celebration was short-lived when they realised that all 9,000 entrants had been sent the message in error.

Boots was forced to send a second email a few hours later to notify the entrants of its mistake.

Never Miss a Retail Update!

By way of an apology, the retailer is offering a second opportunity to win a trip to Barcelona and is also giving all disappointed customers £10 worth of Boots Advantage Card points.

Mark Taylor, head of customer support centre at Boots UK, said: “We can confirm that unfortunately an email was sent in error by one of our suppliers informing some of our customers that they had won a competition.

“Boots UK always aims to offer exciting competitions and money can’t buy experiences and we are truly sorry for any upset that has been caused by this mistake.”
