Boots in talks to sell sex toys
High street retailer may stock adult range
Boots is in talks that may lead to it selling a range of adult sex toys through its high street Boots the Chemist stores.
Boots has said its it is in the early stage of discussions with SSL, manufacturer of theSurex condom brand. The range could be in stores in time for Christmas.
The market for sex toys and adult novelties has fundamentally changed over the past decade, from its roots in licensed sex shops to the mainstream of retail.
The change has been driven in part by the moves of retailers such as Ann Summers and Germany’s Beate Uhse onto the high street, and Boots believes the category may now be mainstream enough for it to enter the market.
The range would target women, the biggest buyers of health and beauty products and Boots core target customer, with 88 per cent of women in the UK usings its 1,400 stores.
A Boots spokesman said: “We’re a modern retailer, we respond to modern demands.”
