Boots Dental Plan customers bank details stolen
Computer tapes containing 27,000 dental plan customers’ bank account details were stolen from a courier van Boots have confirmed.
The tapes were stolen from a courier van on April 3 and also contained personal details of a further 8,000 workers at Boots. Private healthcare administrators Medisure operate the dental insurance service for Boots’ staff and customers. A spokeswoman for Boots said “We would like to reassure our Boots Dental Plan customers that because of the type of data tape that was stolen and the way the information was stored it is highly unlikely that any personal data could be accessed or misused. “We would emphasise that Medisure have informed the Financial Services Authority and the Information Commissioner. Medisure have also ensured that as a precaution our customer’s banks have been informed so that they can monitor affected accounts for any unusual activity.”
