Boots considers limited US trial

Six month test of shop-in-shop format
June 16 2003
Boots has confirmed that it is considering a limited trial of its branded product ranges in the US.

The UK high street giant told the Daily Telegraph newspaper it would work with a US retailer to create branded Boots’ product areas within an existing store chain. Boots uses a similar shop-in-shop model in Hong Kong and Taiwan through a partnership with retailer Watsons.
Boos has largely exited its international operations as it focuses on protecting market share and generating growth in the increasingly competitive UK health & beauty market. However, is alos sees opportunities to develop its range of retail brands, such as No. 7 and Botanicals, in other markets.
A Boots spokesman told the Telegraph: “We are talking to potential partners about a trial to see if the export model can work in the US. No conclusion has been reached but if we do go ahead, it would be a very limited trial.”
The trial, which has not been scheduled and would not happen for at least six months, will take place in up to 15 stores and last six months.
