Bluewater celebrates bumper footfall over weekend

Bluewater has reported enjoying its busiest weekend of the Christmas period to date as footfall between Friday and Sunday reached almost 350,000.

The shopping centre also revealed that footfall on Black Friday and Saturday were both up by 7% on the same days last year.

Over the weekend, Bluewater’s fashion retailers reported strong sales of festive knitwear, footwear, handbags, outerwear and embellished products. Technology sales were also buoyant driven by the new PS4 launch on Friday and strong sales of the iPad Air and Kindle Fire. Other top performing items included fragrances for men and women, and luxury gifts and accessories. In addition, Bluewater’s homeware retailers reported a surge in sales of cookware items.

Bluewater general manager Robert Goodman said: “This has been a great weekend for Bluewater’s retailers, driven by a combination of an exceptional ‘Black Friday’, November payday and our significantly enhanced offer, which is led by 32 new brands this year and 25 store redesigns. Consequently, not only are consumers visiting en masse, they are shopping in earnest.

“We anticipate this strong performance continuing right through to Christmas Eve, and have already introduced extended opening hours to provide even more opportunities for retailers to capture sales.”
