Blackwell’s appoints sales and marketing director

Bookseller Blackwell’s has appointed Dean Drew to the newly created role of sales and marketing director.

Drew has previously worked as marketing director for Peugeot as well as sales and marketing director at retail specialist RMI and head of digital and marketing at CPM Group.

Blackwell’s said his appointment will add “significant senior experience” to its leadership team and is part of a wider restructure of the company’s existing sales and commercial teams.

Following the appointment, Scott Hamilton will continue to head up Blackwell’s shops in the newly created head of retail role while Gareth Hardy will become head of publisher liaison, retaining responsibility for buying, terms and publisher relations.

Tim Kilmartin, head of corporate, professional and institutional sales, and Susannah Hobbs, senior marketing manager, will both report directly to Drew.

Meanwhile, the company’s digital and online and Blackwell learning teams will continue to report directly to Blackwell’s chief executive David Prescott.

Prescott said: “This appointment is an integral part of delivering our on-going and strategic growth plans. Dean will help us bring a joined-up marketing approach to all of our sales channels and ensure Blackwell’s customers’ needs are met seamlessly however they shop with us.

“The strengthened team are focused on driving sales growth and fully exploiting marketing opportunities following excellent summer sales and a positive Back to University campaign that have delivered 9% growth in the year to date.”
