Blacks finance director to stand down

Blacks, the outdoor leisure retailer, is continuing to experience boardroom upheaval with the resignation of Marc Lombardo as its finance director. Lombardo leaves to take up a new position but will stay on at Blacks until December.

Blacks said in statement today that its Nomination Committee had already begun the process for identifying and appointing a successor.

Peter Williams, interim chairman of Blacks, said:  “Marc has helped steer Blacks through some challenging times in retail.  On behalf of the board I would like to thank him for the significant contribution that he has made to the company over the last three years and wish him every success in his new role.”

The news follows the announcement last month that David Bernstein had resigned as chairman after the company’s largest investor, Sports Direct, voted against his re-appointment at the company’s annual general meeting in July.

Blacks has struggled with falling sales in recent months and has been forced to extend its banking facilities. Ex-Figleaves CEO Julia Reynolds joined  Blacks last month as its new chief executive. She has been tasked with turning the business around.
