Black Leisure sales ahead

‘Softer’ trading for leisure retailer
January 22 2003
Blacks Leisure Group saw lie-for-like sales in the seven weeks to January 11 increase by e 3 per cent, with total retail sales up by 18 per cent.

The leisure retailer said the increase was against strong comparatives in the previous year when like-for-like sales growth was running at 11 per cent. In the 19 weeks to January 11, 3 like-for-like sales were 4.5 per cent up, with total retail sales increasing by 20 per cent.
Blacks said that in common with other retailers it saw “softer” trading in the run-up to Christmas period, with a better performance afterwards.
Roy Crosland, Chief Executive said: “I am pleased to report a solid performance from the re-focused group in what were difficult trading conditions and against tough comparatives in the prior year. Having traded successfully through the peak Christmas season we now expect to achieve a satisfactory result for the year as a whole.”
Blacks operates 246 Millets stores, 66 Blacks, 34 Free Spirit and 10 under the licensed O’Neill surfing brand.
