Bill Whiting leaving Kingfisher board
B&Q boss goes part time
B&Q boss Bill Whiting is stepping down from the board of Kingfisher this week.
Whiting, whose retirement as B&Q chief executive was announced in November, will leave the board on January 28, and will continue to work as a part-time executive with the DIY retail group until his retirement at the end of March.
His succesor, Rob Cissell, is currently B&Q’s managing director – commercial. Cissell formally takes over the chief executive role next week.
Gerry Murphy, group chief executive, said: “Bill Whiting is an outstanding retailer and marketing professional. I would like to thank him personally for sharing his wise counsel and great humour, and I wish him a fulfilled and amusing retirement.”
Sir Francis Mackay, chairman, said: “Bill’s knowledge of retail and DIY has been invaluable at Kingfisher. I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his immense contribution to the Group over the last 23 years, and to wish him well in the future.’
