Beyblade factor boosts sales at the Entertainer
Late Christmas rush pushes up performance
January 15 2003
Toy retailer The Entertainer saw a last minute sales rise in the run-up to Christmas, helped by eleventh stocks of the top selling Beyblades toys.
In common with much of the UK toy trade, the 34 store chain has seen sales dip during 2002, with like-for-like sales down by more than 2 per cent across the year before the crucial Christmas week.
Each of the company’s store received around 500 Beyblades on Friday December 20, which combined with an overall increase in sales in the days before Christmas pushing December sales up 3.2 per cent.
Marketing director Mike Thompson said: “The Beyblade Factor certainly helped, and a 3.2 per cent sales increase in what is out busiest month of the year made a big difference.”
Overall sales for the year are up by around 20 per cent, with like-for-likes down by about one per cent.
