BestBuy sees triple digit increase in sales of 3D TVs
BestBuy has revealed it has seen a triple digit increase in sales of 3D TVs since the first models went on sale in the UK in the spring of 2010.
The technology and electrical retailer said that initially sales were slow due to a lack of content for TV and on Blu-ray, but it was now seeing a steady increase as more content becomes available and the price of 3D technology falls.
Rob Wilkins, head of home theatre and entertainment at Best Buy UK, commented: “3D technology has become more affordable. There are 3D TV models and packages for around £600 on the shelves in Best Buy today, which marks a 66% fall on the average price tag in May last year. This uplift also comes in response to broadcasters and film studios offering much more 3D content – including PS3 games, TV programmes, films and sports matches – which has given viewers even more incentive to buy their first 3D set.”
BestBuy launched its first UK store in Thurrock in May 2010 and since then has opened nine more stores across the country.
