Baugur charges are flawed says Judge
Judge believes 18 of the 40 charges brought after a three-year investigation by Iceland’s economic crime unit are flawed.
The judge has asked the prosecution to attend a hearing in Reykjavik next week to see how the problems he has identified can be explained.
The Judges letter to the prosecution says “In the opinion of the bench certain aspects of the indictment may be flawed to the extent that rectification may not be possible in the course of proceedings and that therefore it may not be possible to pronounce judgment regarding material aspects of the case.”
The prosecution can appeal against such a ruling and legal experts have suggested that the judge’s concern about the charges represents a serious setback for the prosecution.
