Barker & Stonehouse to open first London store
Furniture retailer Barker & Stonehouse is to open its first London store this summer as the company looks to expand into southern England.
Set to open in early July, the new £1 million store will be in Battersea in one of the most historic buildings south of the Thames, the old Price’s Candle factory. The store will occupy 25,000 sq ft across two floors and will employ 28 people.
Furniture will include items from the Trees4Trees sustainable forestry foundation which managing director James Barker played a leading role in setting up. The store will also feature low energy heating and an eco lighting system designed by the company.
The new store will be the family-owned company’s ninth since it began trading in Stockton-on-Tees in 1946 and follows the opening of a new flagship store in Knaresborough seven months ago. The company’s other stores are all in the North and Midlands.
Never Miss a Retail Update!Barker said: “We’re really excited about this new store, we feel the time is right to expand to the South and we’re confident that we’ve got a lot to offer the London audience. We’ve invested heavily in developing our own exclusive ranges so we know we’ve got something different to offer customers.”
