Asda to extend George standalone stores
Eight new sites planned for 2005
Asda plans around eight more standalone George stores next year as it continues to pilot the format.
The Wal-Mart owned supermarket group has distributed a list of 50 potential locations to property agents, representing a variety of towns where it believes the George format will work.
An Asda spokesman said the company still sees the standalone George offer as a pilot, and is gauging how different store sizes, formats and locations perform.
The first five George stores have been in a mix of town centre and out-of-town locations, and Asda expects to continue to vary the mix of site types. The spokesman said: “Realistically, we’re looking at around eight more stores next year.”
