Asda to expand online shopping offer
UK coverage to increase
Asda plans to expand its home shopping offer this summer, extending the range of its asda.co.uk e-commerce site.
From August, 53 Asda stores will offer home shopping services compared to 32 at present. This will expand the asda.com offer to take in 40 per cent of the UK from the current 30 per cent.
Wal-Mart owned Asda has taken a cautious approach to developing its online offer. Rival Tesco, which like Asda picks deliveries from stores rather than dedicated warehouses, now covers 96 per cent of the UK population.
However, Asda has been reviewing its online presence. Next month sees the launch of www.george.com, a website dedicated to Asda’s clothing brand. Initially, this will be a brand showcase rather than a transactional site.
