Asda Takes On Royal Role

In store celebrations to mark Golden Jubilee
May 27 2002
Asda is to hold car park ‘street’ parties to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.

All 253 stores around the UK are organising Jubilee events over the four-day Bank Holiday weekend.
The supermarket operator is to involve customers and local communities in the celebrations, with more than 40 Asda stores also hosting suitably majestic firework displays.
Director of marketing Richard Hodgson said “Asda is delighted to be taking a leading role in the nation’s celebrations for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee. Lifestyles and communities have changed so much since the Silver Jubilee that people don’t have the time to organise their own street parties so we have taken on the role of party organisers for each community. We can certainly promise a weekend of great fun with parties that will truly be fit for a Queen.”
The parties in Asda car parks come complete with bunting, streamers, party hats and flags, will be held in the stores’ car parks up and down the country. Tables will be laden with food and drink to toast Her Majesty’s health. There will also be a chance for each store to crown its own ‘Queen for the Day’.
