Asda revs up insurance offer
Supermarket will add new financial products later this year
June 13 2002
Asda is to add motor insurance and other new financial services to its product range.
The move will keep the supermarket operator, owned by Wal-Mart, in competition with rival UK retailers such as Tesco and Marks & Spencer. Both have successfully developed a range of financial services from insurance to personal loans, selling in-store and to customer databases built through store and loyalty cards.
Asda already offers pet and travel insurance, and Insurance Times magazine reports that the retailer has held discussions with a number of motor insurance providers about an Asda-branded product. The company is planning to launch the first of its expanded range of financial products by the end of the year.
