Asda launches petrol price comparison website
Asda has launched a price comparison website for petrol to enable drivers to check prices at filling stations within three miles of their local store.
The supermarket claims the website will highlight “huge” price discrepancies between those towns with Asda stores and those without.
The move follows surveys by the AA and The Sun where it was shown that the presence of an Asda filling station in a town can affect the price charged by rivals for petrol.
Asda said the website will be followed by the launch of a mobile app to make it easy for customers to check petrol prices on the move.
Never Miss a Retail Update!“Our new comparison site will enable millions of drivers to see for themselves how much we charge and how that compares to all the other retailers where they live,” said Asda’s trading director for petrol, Andy Peake.
“We intend to shine a headlight on the exorbitant prices other retailers are prepared to charge when Asda isn’t nearby. It’s time for them to come clean or risk being given the cold, hard shoulder by drivers up and down the country.”
