Asda completes conversion of Netto stores

Supermarket giant Asda has announced that it will complete the conversion of the Netto stores it acquired from Dansk Supermarket within the next week.

The last store to be transformed into an Asda supermarket will open in Southampton on 21 November.

In a statement, Asda said that each store closed for an average of two weeks while the refit took place with eight stores re-opening per week at the height of the refurbishment programme.

The transformation of the Netto stores, which enabled Asda to build a small store chain of scale in record time, has resulted in the creation of 2,500 jobs, 1,000 more than originally planned.

Asda said that the Netto stores converted to Asda Supermarkets had attracted more than 500,000 new customers since the first stores opened in Wakefield and Worksop in May 2011.

Karen Hubbard, Asda’s director of store poposition, said: “We knew when we set out on this journey that our goal to convert the Netto estate in such a short space of time was ambitious.

It’s testament to the hard work and total dedication of the colleagues working on this programme that we have delivered on time, to budget and exceeded our own high expectations with these new stores.”
