Asda boosts staff to cut weekend queues

2,000 new jobs to ensure ‘always open’ checkouts
Asda is pledging to keep every checkout in its 270 stores open across the weekend in a new queue-busting initiative.

The Wal-Mart owned superrmarket operator said it will create 2,000 new jobs across the UK in order to put a stop to weekend shopping queues.
Asda is pledging that every one of the 7,000 checkouts in its stores will be open from 10am to 6pm on Saturdays and throughout tradig hours on Sundays. The pilot starts this weekend and if it is successful, the scheme will be extended indefinitely.
Asda said its research shows that while plenty of parking, trolleys that go in a straight line and high standards of customer service are important to customers, long weekend queues are a turn-off to shoppers.
John Irwin, Asda’s director of customer service, said: “We want to help customers get in, get round and get out as quickly as possible. Almost one third of our customers shop exclusively at the weekends and we think this scheme will make a real difference.”
