Argos seeks 21,000 Christmas staff

Record numbers required for busy season
September 18 2003
Argos has launched a campaign to recruit over 21,000 temporary staff in the run-up to Christmas.

Over 17,000 jobs will be in the 539 Argos stores in the UK and Republic of Ireland, with the rest in the Argos Direct home shopping business and its distribution centres.
Under a campaign slogan of lasting impressions Argos wants temporary staff to know that that not only play a big part in the company’s Christmas sales but also deliver great service, the memories of which will last all year.
Argos managing director Kate Swann said: “Temporary staff play a vital role in helping customers get the goods they want and the service they expect at Christmas and this year we are recruiting more staff than ever before.”
The campaign includes a range of recruitment initiatives involving job centre advertisements, posters in stores and local advertising. Previous Christmas workers have all been sent postcards inviting them back to work again this year, and potential new recruits have also been encouraged to apply directly to their local Argos store.
There is also the chance of a permanent post, with Argos planning to open 35 new stores a year for the next three years, creating job opportunities for 6,000 people.
