Argos predicts retro toy sales will soar during bank holiday heatwave

Argos is predicting that sales of retro toys such as Mr Frosty and Slush Puppie machines are set to soar this Bank Holiday weekend due to the expected heatwave.

With the UK set to enjoy temperatures of 30C, the retailer has analysed the sales boost that July’s record-breaking heatwave generated for its traditional toys.

Old school favourite Mr Frosty The Ice Crunch Maker saw its sales climb by almost 40% week-on-week in in the sunshine while sales of the Slush Puppie Slushie Machine grew by 88%.

The retailer’s data also shows that sales of paddling pools doubled during the midsummer heat while sales of water guns and super soakers saw a 70% uplift.

Other products that were popular in the sun included  roller skates and   Swingball.

Juliet Ward, head of toys and leisure buying at Argos, said: “Kids are so engrossed in apps and games these days, it’s really encouraging to see sales of classic outdoor toy favourites rise dramatically when the sun comes out. Generations of children have enjoyed Mr Frosty and Swingball and it seems the warm summer weather will persuade kids out of their bedrooms and into the backyard once again.”
