Archie Norman: ‘No approach’ from Morrisons
Former Asda boss moves to distance himself from boardroom row
Former Asda chairman Archie Norman has insisted he has had no approach about taking the chief executive role at Morrisons.
Norman, who has been linked to a return to retail in several roles since stepping down as a Conservative MP, has made it clear that he has no appetite for becoming a pawn in a boardroom struggle at Morrisons.
David Jones, the chairman of Next who took the deputy chair role at Morrisons earlier this year, is reported to have put Norman’s name in the frame as a potential replacement for Morrisons’ chief executive Bob Stott. Morrisons’ chairman Sir Ken Morrison is said to be strongly resisting moves that would see him sidelined in the business.
The Financial Times quotes Norman as saying: “I am not actively looking for a role in a public company. I have heard about the alleged proposal but I have received no such proposal; and it is not my intention to become involved in a debate between two people that I both like and respect.”
