American Eagle Outfitters chief executive steps down
US fashion retailer American Eagle Outfitters has announced that its chief executive Robert Hanson has stood down and is being succeeded on an interim basis by the company’s executive chairman Jay Schottenstein.
Hanson is leaving American Eagle after less than two years, having joined the company from Levi Strauss & Co where he was global president of Levi’s.
In a statement the company said it was beginning the search for a permanent successor to Hanson. Meanwhile, Roger Markfield has agreed to postpone his retirement and will continue in his current role as vice chairman and executive creative director.
Schottenstein said: “On behalf of the board of directors, I want to thank Robert for his contributions during his tenure and wish him well in his future endeavours. I look forward to working closely with Roger and our talented team to capitalize on the significant potential of our brands and to position the company for growth and long-term success.”
Never Miss a Retail Update!Having joined American Eagle as chairman in 1992, Schottenstein previously served as chief executive of the company from March 1992 until December 2002.
Markfield joined American Eagle in 1993 and is credited with overseeing its evolution in to a leading lifestyle apparel brand.
