Amazon’s new headquarters to be split between New York and Virginia
Amazon has announced that its new headquarters will be split between New York and Arlington in Virginia.
The US online retail giant is investing more than $5 billion in the two locations which will create more than 50,000 jobs. The move will mean that Amazon will have three headquarters in north America including its site in Seattle.
Amazon has also revealed that it has chosen Nashville for a new centre of excellence for its operations business which is responsible for the company’s customer fulfilment, transportation and supply chain functions. The new site will create more than 5,000 jobs.
Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and chief executive, said: “We are excited to build new headquarters in New York City and Northern Virginia. These two locations will allow us to attract world-class talent that will help us to continue inventing for customers for years to come. The team did a great job selecting these sites, and we look forward to becoming an even bigger part of these communities.”
The company will begin hiring staff for the new headquarters in 2019.
