Amazon to close all book stores in US and UK

Amazon is to close all of its physical  book stores, 4-star shops and pop-up locations as it looks to revamp its bricks-and-mortar footprint.

Operating 66 stores in the US and two in the UK, the online retail giant said the move will enable it to focus on Amazon Fresh, Wholefoods Market and its Amazon Go convenience concept.

The retailer will also be launching Amazon Style, its first physical store for apparel, later this year at the The Americana at Brand shopping destination in greater Los Angeles. In addition, it will be focusing on selling its “just-walk-out” technology to other retailers.

It is unclear how many staff will be affected by the closures,

In a statement, the retailer said: “We remain committed to building great long-term physical retail experiences and technologies and we’re working closely with our affected employees to help find them new roles in Amazon.”
