Amazon requests corporate staff to return to the office
Amazon has requested that corporate employees return to working in the office for at least three days a week from 1 May,
In a memo to posted on the company’s news site that was shared with staff, Amazon’s chief executive Andy Jassy said in-person work as opposed to remote made it easier to “learn, model, practice and strengthen our culture when we’re in the office together most of the time and surrounded by colleagues.”
He also said that it facilitated improved collaboration, inventing and learning.
Jassy explained: “Teams tend to be better connected to one another when they see each other in person, more frequently. There is something about being face-to-face with somebody, looking them in the eye, and seeing they are fully immersed in whatever you’re discussing that bonds people together.”
The move follows guidance issued by Amazon in 2021 that said director level managers could decide where the teams could work.
