Amazon offers direct same-day delivery from local stores

Amazon is offering Prime members in the US the facility to shop directly from their local retail stores through the Amazon app and on Amazon.com and have their purchases delivered on the same day.

The service is being made available in select ZIP codes in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas, Miami, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Seattle and Washington DC.

Retail stores taking part in the scheme include PacSun, GNC, Superdry and Diesel. Additional retailers due to join the service in the coming months include Sur La Table and 100% Pure.

To use the scheme, Prime members browse a selection from retail stores in their local area and select same day delivery. Amazon then sends the order to the chosen shop where staff will fulfil it from their in-store inventory before it is picked up by Amazon’s delivery partner.

Some stores will also offer the option to buy online and pick up in store. The service is free for Prime members who spend $25 or more on qualifying items and $2.99 for members who spend below $25.

Sarah Mathew, director of Amazon Delivery Experience, said: “The expansion of Amazon’s Same-Day Delivery to include beloved brands delivered directly from nearby retail locations is just another way we are offering customers even greater selection, at faster speeds. We are excited to see this new model come to life and look forward to adding more brands, stores, and locations to the programme.”
