One year deal aims to grow US online wine sales
Amazon has announced a partnership with US online retailer Wine.com.

The deal aims to encourage the growing number of US consumers switching to wine from beer and other drinks to buy more online. While online grocery sales have boomed in some parts of the US, wine sales have yet to make a significant impact on the internet.
Amazon and Wine.com did not disclose the financial terms of the one-year deal. Amazon will direct traffic to Wine.com’s site rather than fulfill orders itself. The laws on selling and supplying wine in the US vary from state to state, requiring a specialist approach.
George Garrick, CEO of Wine.com, said: “We’re really offering a new way to sell wine in the same way that 10 years ago Amazon offered a new way to sell books.”
Last year, Wine.com shipped wine to more than 100,000 customers in 36 states, increasing sales by more than 40 per cent to $32m. However, less than 0.5 per cent of US wine sales are made online.
