Amazon launches Amazon Student

Amazon has launched Amazon Student, a new programme that will give students free one-day delivery and discounts on Kindle tablets for a limited period.

The programme will offer students six months of free one-day delivery on over 7 million eligible items on the site. Until 15 May, Amazon Student will also offer subscribers 20% off all Kindle Fire tablets.

Xavier Garambois, vice president of EU retail at Amazon, said: “Students currently at University, or those heading there this year, are the internet generation – accustomed to conducting their lives online, via their phone, tablet or PC. Our student customers tell us that they want to save time and money when shopping and this programme has been designed to achieve that goal.”

At the end of the six-month free trial, students will then be offered the option of converting to a discounted Amazon Prime membership for £39 per year which is less than half the standard cost of Amazon Prime.

Amazon is also offering students an additional 20% on the trade-in value of used books through the Amazon Trade-In programme until 30 June.
