Amazon said to be preparing for mass job cuts

Amazon is understood to be planning to cut thousands of corporate and technology jobs amid a slowdown in sales.

According to The New York Times, the reductions could total 10,000 and come as early as this week. Jobs impacted could include roles in the US tech giant’s devices, retail and HR divisions.

Last month, Amazon forecast weaker than expected sales over the Christmas trading period and has already announced a hiring freeze.

If the number of jobs lost does reach 10,000, that would represent 3% of the company’s corporate workforce.

According to media reports, the exact number of jobs to be cut remains fluid and it is not yet known how many roles could be affected in the UK.
