All Sports store closures catchment areas ranking highlights trading level dangers
The Retail Bulletin commissioned CACI to rank the catchment potential of the Allsports stores up for disposal.
Using CACI’s Retail Footprint Catchment Population indicator, it is clear that Allsports operated out of stores with a wide range of customer potential. The CACI model, taking account of retail location size and the effect of competing centres, shows the danger of operating a restricted multiple retail offer in towns with low market sizes.
The Allsports disposal portfolio, particularly across their north-west homeland, includes a number of towns centres that failed to deliver the trading levels required by Allsports. This begs the question, how many other retail portfolios have too many locations that will drag down performance in a challenging retail economy?
