Aldi to hire over 5,000 staff in UK this year
Aldi is to hire an additional 5,000 store staff and over 500 store management personnel this year as it looks to keep pace with its expansion plans.
The new roles will include positions for 5,000 store and stock staff, 150 store managers and 400 assistant store managers in shops across the UK. The discount retailer said it is on course to open around 55 new stores in 2014 and will also extend nearly 30 existing stores.
Aldi has also created an academy at its Middleton distribution centre in Greater Manchester to handle the training and development of both new and existing staff. The academy will switch to a brand new, state-of-the-art facility at Aldi’s new distribution centre in Bolton when it opens in 2016.
All of the 5,000 store staff recruits will receive full training in-store with additional training and specialist skills to be handled by the Academy.
Never Miss a Retail Update!James Hutcheson, managing director responsible for overseeing the Aldi Academy, said: “Our stores are becoming much busier, so we require additional staff to maintain the excellent customer service which our customers expect.
“Aldi will be targeting experienced and talented retail staff to join our store management teams, and we are hoping to attract individuals from a wide range of backgrounds for our general store positions.
“The launch of the Aldi Academy will ensure that recruitment and training is standardised across the whole of the Aldi UK business, and we have appointed a team of dedicated and experienced professionals to deliver this, both for new starters and existing employees.”
