Sale to Carrefour continues disposal programme
November 14 2003
Ahold has sold two of its Polish chain of Hypernova hypermarkets to Carrefour Poland.
The sale to the local subsidiary of the French supermarket giant for an undisclosed sum is part of Ahold’s strategy to dispose of underperforming assets in order to focus on the recovery of its core operations.
The sale of the hypermarkets, in the towns of Sosnowiec and Bydgoszcz, includes the transfer of all employees to Carrefour.
The deal leaves Ahold with around 22 Hypernova outlets. The company also operates around 160 stores in Poland under the Albert supermarket brand.
