A happy and healthy New Year from Leeds Co-op
Focus on health and diet
Leeds Co-op is building in its success with fairtrade, food labelling and the introduction of reduced salt and sugar products, with a campaign for a better society by focusing on health and diet throughout 2005.
Posters, radio adverts and in-store events will spreadthe word for a healthier lifestyle. The promotion of healthy living follows a number of Leeds Co-op campaigns including speaking out against supplements for single travellers, opposing discrimination and initiatives to reduce the amount of litter on the streets of Leeds.
Launching the first of the campaign posters to be seen around the City, Alan Gill, chief executive of Leeds Co-op said, “Even though there has been much talk recently about healthy eating, diet and exercise, many people find it difficult to motivate themselves to choose a healthier lifestyle. Throughout 2005 we are going to provide some easy and practical information for our members and other customers.”
Throughout the year the stores will hold educational and fun activities, including the distribution of pedometers, so customers can monitor their steps and calculate the calories used, dancing in the stores with break dancers, line dancers and others giving demonstrations of how to keep fit.
There will even be weight lifting demonstrations using simple products available in the store, maintaining the store’s message that healthy living can be easy and needn’t be expensive.
The stores will also adopt various methods in support of the Government’s initiative, encouraging people to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. This will also aim to show customers that healthy food can taste great too.
The messages will change throughout the year, encouraging all ages and types of people to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
