99p Stores to open first store in Scotland

Single price retailer 99p stores will open its first store in Scotland in the next few weeks and plans to open up to 30 further stores during the coming three years as it looks to expand its store network. The openings will create over 500 jobs.

The new 7,211 store in Ayr’s central shopping centre is currently undergoing a £250,000 re-fit to create a new “state-of-the-art” store which the retailer said will open “within the next month or so”. 

Commenting on the Ayr opening, 99p Stores commercial director Hussein Lalani said: “It’s a town very much on the up and we are delighted to be opening our very first – of many – planned Scottish stores in Ayr.” 

He added:”Scottish shoppers are value-savvy – we are extremely excited about this next challenge.”

99p stores is currently in discussion on four further shops in Scotland, which will open over the next six months. The retailer plans to open an additional 25 stores over the next three years, creating in excess of 500 new jobs.

Lalani said the brand is looking at other sites across Scotland but wants shoppers’ suggestions. He added: “We would love to hear from the public. We welcome all feedback.”
