Mothercare suspends all business in Russia

Mothercare has announced that it has suspended all of its business in Russia following the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

The mother and baby products brand has followed in the footsteps of a host of other retailers in exiting the country, including the likes of Zara owner Inditex, which has closed its 502 Russian stores and its ecommerce website.

Meanwhile, the John Lewis Partnership announced last week that it is removing all Russian made products from its shelves in Waitrose and John Lewis. This means that it will no longer sell a Russian vodka in Waitrose and one line of pizza oven pellets in John Lewis.

Mothercare said in a statement that its move also applies to the shipment of all products.

It also said its local partner has confirmed that it will be immediately pausing operations in some 120 stores and online.

Russia represents around 20% to 25% of Mothercare’s worldwide retail sales and was previously expected to contribute around £0.5 million per month to group profit.
