4,000 attend Whiteley shopping centre recruitment day

Almost 4,000 people attended a recruitment day at the new Whiteley shopping centre last week to find out more about the 1,000 jobs on offer.

The £84 million development in Hampshire, which is a joint venture by British Land and Universities Superannuation Scheme, will open on 23 May.  With more than 50 new shops, the centre will be anchored by a 60,000 sq ft Marks & Spencer store. Signed retailers include  Topshop, Next, H&M, River Island, Clarks, The Entertainer, Mamas and Papas, Schuh, Paperchase, Claire’s Accessories, Moss, Boots, JD Sports, Bank and Sports Direct.

Retailers who took part in the recruitment day included Topshop, Next, JD Sports, The Entertainer and Starbucks.

Claire Barber, head of shopping centre asset management for British Land, said: “We were thrilled at the level of interest retailers received on the day and are delighted that so many local people are as enthusiastic about the scheme as we are. The new shopping centre will bring more than 1,000 new jobs to the area along with a diverse range of retailer brands and we look forward to launching next month.”

Never Miss a Retail Update!

Whiteley will benefit from a catchment of 1.2 million people with an estimated £3.1 billion potential spend. The catchment is set to expand further when 3,500 new homes are built at North Whiteley.
