3,800 jobs at risk at catalogue group Grattan
3,800 jobs at catalogue firm Grattan are at risk from a planned restructuring, trade union group Usdaw has said today.
Usdaw said the 3,800 jobs were under threat following a strategic review of the business. The job losses are not believed to result from the economic downturn and are because of restructuring plans.
David Johnson, Usdaw National Officer, said: ‘Our members are totally shocked and distressed by this news. Everyone was aware that a business review was taking place that may have resulted in a number of redundancies. However, no-one could have predicted the scale of this announcement putting up to 3,800 jobs at risk.’
Johnson said he has been told the decision “is not due to the economic downturn but reflects restructuring and repositioning in the traditional catalogue home shopping sector that has seen a steady decline in recent years.”
