Waitrose offers last minute oysters via Deliveroo this Valentine’s Day

Waitrose is offering couples the chance to order what is considered to be the nation’s favourite aphrodisiac via Deliveroo this Valentine’s Day.

The move marks the first time that the supermarket has made oysters available on its Deliveroo menu.

Waitrose said the shellfish are expected to be in hot demand after figures showed that lovers made good use of the service last year to create some last minute romance. Matches were the most forgotten item, with sales through Deliveroo up 2,500% on Valentine’s Day, as couples enjoyed candle lit dinners.

The service also proved popular for impromptu breakfasts in bed with customers putting in early morning orders for avocados, strawberries, blueberries and bananas.

This year, Waitrose is also making its Valentine’s Meal Deal available via Deliveroo for those customers looking to create an instant restaurant-at-home experience.

Tom Gough, online merchandiser at Waitrose, said: “Last minute romantics are set to embrace speedy deliveries this Valentine’s day. Our previous experience shows that February 14th is one of our busiest days for customers seeking out those last minute touches – from breakfast in bed to a humble box of matches – and this year we’re adding oysters to the menu to add some extra ‘pizazz’.”
