Waitrose launches vegan cooking course due to surge in demand for vegan food in-store
Waitrose has added a vegan cookery course to its schedule at its Waitrose Cookery School in London’s Kings Cross following a surge in demand for vegan dishes at its supermarkets.
Due to run in April, the course will be the third the school has run in response to high customer demand.
Aspiring vegan cooks will learn how to make dishes such as vegan chocolate brownies with whipped meringue and raspberry sorbet.
Leyli Homayoonfar, Waitrose Kings Cross Cookery School chef, said: “There is currently a huge appetite for cooking vegan recipes at home. Perhaps inspired by the growing number of vegan cooks, such as The Happy Pear – who share their delicious creations on social media, more people than ever want to bring vegan dishes to their kitchen table. Our course is perfect for vegans as well as those who may just want to explore vegan cooking for the first-time.”
Waitrose said sales of vegan ready-meals were double that of vegetarian dishes in January as the supermarket steadily increased its range of vegan dishes. These included the addition of a vegan haggis, which was launched in time for Burns Night.
