Waitrose enjoys surge in apple cider vinegar sales

Waitrose has said apple cider vinegar is flying off its shelves as people become more interested in fermented foods and their purported health benefits.

With shoppers no longer just keeping the vinegar for their salad dressings, sales at Waitrose are up over 60% with Aspall Apple Cyder Vinegar and the recently introduced Willy’s Apple Cider Vinegar leading the charge.

The product’s popularity is also being boosted by the number of celebrities reported to be apple cider aficionados including the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Katy Perry and Victoria Beckham.

Waitrose buyer Oliver Chadwyck-Healey said: “In the last 18 months, Waitrose shoppers have embraced the popularity of apple cider vinegar with our sales reflecting this. Once only the preserve of dressings and sauces we know that some like to take a tablespoon, sip it diluted with water or – my personal favourite – mixed with hot water and a teaspoon of honey.”
