Vivino hires former Majestic MD

Online wine marketplace Vivino has appointed Joshua Lincoln as its first UK managing director.

The move follows the company’s hiring of Paul Jones as UK director of buying and supply who has been with Vivino since 2017.

Lincoln is a former managing director of Majestic Wine and a founding member of Naked Wines. He will also be joined in the UK by two other former Majestic directors, Natalie Th’ng and Nicholas Bell.

Founded in 2010 by Heini Zachariassen and Theis Søndergaard, Vivino sold over £100 million of wine globally in 2019 and is aiming to double that in 2020.

Lincoln will lead Vivino’s development in the ecommerce market and will focus on expanding its marketplace of independent wine retailers.

Zachariassen said: “Global wine sales continue to grow, and now is the perfect time for us to invest in a winning strategy for this critical market. The cornerstone of our plan is to put a winning team in place with a track record of delivering UK sales and customer growth. The depth of our community-generated data means we are uniquely placed to offer customers personalised wine recommendations that match their tastes. We’re confident Josh and his team will help us fulfill our commitment to changing the way people discover and purchase wine in the UK.”
