Tesco reviews options for Asia businesses
9 December, 2019 | by Angela Beevers
The Tesco supermarket chain has begun to review options for its businesses in Thailand and Malaysia.
The review could result in a possible sale of the companies.
In a statement, Tesco said: “The evaluation of strategic options is at an early stage, no decisions concerning the future of Tesco Thailand or Malaysia have been taken, and there can be no assurance that any transaction will be concluded. A further announcement will be made if and when appropriate.”
Tesco operates nearly 2,000 stores in Thailand and 74 shops in Malaysia. In the year to February, the two businesses posted a profit of £286 million and combined revenues of £4.9 billion.
