Tesco apologises for glitch with credit and debit card payments

Tesco has apologised to customers after an issue with its payments system led to hundreds of debit and credit card payments being processed up to three months late.

Customers impacted by the problem have been sent letters by Tesco in which it said: “A number of credit and debit card payments did not process correctly for some customers in a small number of our Express stores. You may have noticed this as an unexpected transaction at Tesco in your bank statement.”

It is understood that the glitch had affected around 300 of Tesco’s 1,700 Express convenience stores.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “As soon as we identified the issue, we contacted as many affected customers as possible and have now processed all incomplete transactions. The issue has now been resolved and we are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
