SPAR International enters Kosovo
SPAR International has entered the Kosovan retail market as part of its ongoing expansion strategy.
The company has opened three stores in the city of Prishtina. They will sell a range of SPAR own brand products as well as international brands and fresh local Kosovo produce.
SPAR Kosovo is a new entity set up by a consortium of SPAR’s partners in FMCG wholesale, retail, food safety and international franchising.
The company is aiming to have 35 stores operational in the country within five years.
SPAR International will continue to support SPAR Kosovo with store design and layout, employee training and development, and retail operational standards. It will also facilitate SPAR own brand product sourcing from both international and regional partners.
Tobias Wasmuht, managing director of SPAR International, said: “It is an exciting time for SPAR in this market, as we officially launch the brand with six store openings this year and plan to open seven more next year.
“The FMCG retail market has been one of the fastest growing sectors in Kosovo, a country of just under 2 million people and SPAR’s 27th market in Europe. The market is growing and driven by a consumer demand for Western shopping standards and products. SPAR’s local but global approach will deliver international best practice while harnessing local retail expertise.”
SPAR International now has 13,115 stores across four continents. It employs around 350,000 people worldwide.
