Sainsbury’s to install fresh water stands in cafes
Sainsbury’s is installing fresh water stands in its cafes so that customers can use them to fill their re-usable water bottles.
The scheme will be launched in 326 supermarket cafes in August. Sainsbury’s already offers 25 pence off hot drinks in its cafes when a customer brings a re-usable cup.
The supermarket has also announced that it is now offering customers the option of having their meat, fish, cheese and deli purchases packaged in their own re-usable containers.
Sainsbury’s chief executive Mike Coupe said: “Our customers want to use less plastic so I am determined that Sainsbury’s continues to find ways to help them do that. Allowing customers to refill their own water bottles and re-use food containers is further evidence of our commitment to reduce unnecessary plastic waste.”
